July the Fourth....

So I had Monday and Tuesday off for the holiday. Weird to have two days off in a row with nothing to do. That hasn't happened since... I guess November. I was faced with the delima of what to do.  Those days couldn't just be wasted. It was life as usual Sat and Sunday... work and church. Monday morning I didn't have to get up. So I slept in until oh, 9ish. Pittled around until we decided on something to do. Go to Delaware. Why? Because I had never been there.

Around 2 we managed to get everything we thought we needed, and nothing we really did, into the car and off we went. Discovered that there are two hwy 1. One that leads you down to the coast in Delaware, the other leads you to Baltimore. We were almost in Baltimore before we discovered that.

7:15 we parked on the beach in Delaware. Watched dolphins in the ocean, checked out elaborate sand castles, saw fireworks, watched people on the boardwalk, got eaten by sand fleas. The sand fleas were what finally pushed us off the beach. We decided on driving a ways that night, sleeping in the car, getting breakfast, then continuing on to Washington, DC, for the 4th. (because I'd never been there...)

So we did. Only we skipped the eating breakfast thing...

Arrival in Washington, DC... tired, hungry, have to pee, and probably smelling a little funny by this point ( I had forgoten my deoderant). The Parks department had everything roped off for some event that was starting at 10. Constitution Ave was set for a parade to take place. there were rows of porta-potties... right behind a huge fence they wouldn't let us past. Breakfast: hotdog and a gaterade. $6.

Eventually we got in. And peed. Saw some of the memorials. Veitnam wall, Lincoln, the new Korean war memorial... By this time it was 100 degrees out there. So mesuems with air conditioning sounded good. So we walked across the mall and went to a couple of those.

Headed home in the evening. I wanted to stay and watch the fireworks there, but it would have been too late (early morning) by the time we got home. We nixed the idea of stopping in Baltimore to watch the fireworks there, and went home to watch the Boston Pops on TV instead. Fell asleep before they were over. (Who cares about Steven Tyler anyway??)

If you're still reading this, I'm impressed. Either that you love me, or that you really have no life.

And would you believe, that thru all this I forgot my troll? Which just means I have to go back and do it all again...
